Miss a required field and your invoice may not be valid. Here's everything Canada Revenue Agency expects on it.
An invoice that's missing the right fields can cause payment delays — or, if it's meant to be a GST/HST invoice, it might not even be valid. Here's what Canada Revenue Agency expects in Canada.
Your business name and Business Number (BN).
The word "Invoice" (or "GST/HST Invoice" where you're registered).
A unique invoice number and the date issued.
A clear description of the work and materials.
GST/HST shown separately (5–15% (varies by province)), with the total in CAD.
The client's name and address.
**The faster you make payment, the faster the money lands.** Put your payment details and due date where the client can't miss them, and number every invoice sequentially so your records stay clean at tax time.
The best time to invoice is the moment the work's done. UteQuote builds a CRA-compliant invoice on-site by voice, with your BN and GST/HST already handled.
Only if you're registered for GST/HST. Registration is required once your turnover reaches CAD $30,000 in Canada. If you are registered, show GST/HST separately on every invoice.
If you're running a business in Canada you should have a Business Number (BN). It makes you look legitimate and keeps your invoices compliant.
UteQuote turns a quick voice note into a CRA-compliant estimate or invoice in seconds.
